Blog Tour: A Shadow in the Past by Melanie Robertson-King

Today, I’m thrilled to have debut novelist, Melanie Robertson-King, visiting me here at The World of Ashley Stoyanoff.

Thanks for hosting me, Ashley, to help me celebrate the launch of A Shadow in the Past.

Ashley: How can you describe your book in one sentence?

Melanie: When a contemporary teen is transported back in time to the Victorian era, she becomes A Shadow in the Past…

Ashley: This novel is set in Scotland. Will you always set your novels here?

Melanie: Not only did I set this novel in Scotland, but I set it in the area of Aberdeenshire where my father was raised. Currently, I have three other manuscripts in the works, two are set strictly in Scotland while the other takes place in Scotland, England and France – Paris specifically.

Ashley: What are you working on now?

Melanie: Currently, I’m not working on anything (I shouldn’t say that, I’m touring around the world – virtually promoting A Shadow in the Past) but I’ll go back and work on the manuscripts mentioned in the previous question.

Ashley: In addition to doing this blog tour, what other methods have you employed to get your name and title noticed?

Melanie: In June 2011, I joined the ground-breaking author/reader group loveahappyending.com as an Associate Reader but in May of this year, I became one of their Featured Authors. The group has members scattered to the four corners of the world. Unfortunately, I couldn’t attend their first Summer Audience, in England, personally this year, but I did send promotional material.

My blog tour ends on October 12 at the Author Roast & Toast blog, which promises to be great fun.

I’m also planning on using local TV and radio to get my name and title out there.

I also have an extremely supportive independent bookstore owner here in Brockville who has been displaying promotional material for me all summer.

I maintain a website, blog and am on social media sites – Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

Ashley: Where can A Shadow in the Past be purchased?

Melanie: Online from my publisher 4RV Publishing, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Chapters, my website, and at Leeds County Books in Brockville, Ontario.

Ashley: Thanks for joining us here today. I wish you a successful blog tour and launch of your debut novel.

A Shadow in the Past

When a contemporary teen is transported back through time to the Victorian era, she becomes A Shadow in the Past…

When nineteen year old Sarah Shand finds herself in Victorian Era Aberdeenshire, Scotland, she has no idea how she got there. Her last memory is of being at the stone circle on the family farm in the year 2010.

Despite having difficulty coming to terms with her situation, Sarah quickly learns she must keep her true identity a secret.

Still, she feels stifled by the Victorians’ confining social practices, including arranged marriages between wealthy and influential families, confronts them head on and suffers the consequences.

When Sarah realizes she has fallen in love with the handsome Laird of Weetshill, she faces an agonizing decision. Does she try to find her way back to 2010 or remain in the past with the man she loves?

  1. I hope you're planning on holidaying in Paris, Melanie - strictly research, of course. On the other hand, you've earned a holiday, I reckon. Good luck! :) xx

  2. A holiday in Paris... I'd be there in a heartbeat. Was there in 2003 and loved it. I believe, if I was doing research (and could prove it to the government), I could write off a good portion of the cost of the trip come tax time... Hmmm... that's got me to thinking.
